(Updated) A Lovely Invitation

It’s not every day a writer gets an invite like this one:

In its nearly three centuries of existence, The Saturday Evening Post has published

short fiction by a who’s who of American authors including

F. Scott Fitzgerald; Dorothy Parker; William Faulkner;

Agatha Christie; Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.; Ray Bradbury; Louis L’Amour;

Sinclair Lewis; Jack London; Ann Beattie; and Edgar Allan Poe.

Now they reveal the next generation of literary leaders to join that illustrious line-up in

The Saturday Evening Post’s Annual Great American Fiction Contest.

Joan SerVaas, Chief Executive Officer and Publisher, The Saturday Evening Post,

Steven Slon, Editorial Director and Associate Publisher, The Saturday Evening Post,

and Lynn Rosen, Editorial Director, Publishing Executive

Invite you to toast the winners of

The Saturday Evening Post

Great American Fiction Contest

Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013

6:00pm to 8:00pm

Michael’s New York

24 W. 55th Street

New York City

Cocktails and Hors d’Oeuvres will be served.

Invitations are non-transferrable and space is limited.

 Will update later with photos and thoughts about my participation in this event.

LATER: Back from a wonderful evening with the publishers and editors of The Saturday Evening Post. Winning writers ranged in age from 22 to over 70, some being published for the first time, and others of us, including the overall winner, Lucy Jane Bledsoe, who have had small press novels and stories in journals, but never one with this wide an audience. Congrats to her, and to my fellow scribes. The PR firm will be putting up a Tumbler/etc as soon as tomorrow so that you all may enjoy the pics.
